ASTM A420 WPL6 Buttweld Fittings are made to ASTM A420 / ASME SA420 WPL6 (seamless); WPL6W (welded) for low-temperature carbon steel systems. Elbows, tees, reducers and caps are dimensioned to ASME B16.9 and bevelled for welding into ASTM A420 WPL6 pipe.

ASTM A420 WPL6 is the low-temperature carbon steel grade for buttweld fittings, the partner of ASTM A333 Grade 6 pipe and A350 LF2 flanges. Fittings are Charpy impact tested at −46 °C so that LTCS piping systems stay tough in cold service.

ASTM A420 WPL6 fittings are normalised after forming and impact tested on each heat. Welded fittings (with a W suffix) have their welds examined and impact tested as the specification requires.
Every heat is PMI-verified and its chemistry and mechanical properties are confirmed against the material specification before the buttweld fittings are released. Each piece is marked with grade, size, rating and heat number for traceability to its EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate. EN 10204 3.2 certification and inspection by the buyer's nominated third-party agency are available on request, as are PED 2014/68/EU compliance for European projects and IBR certification for Indian boiler applications.
Charpy impact results at the specified test temperature are reported for each heat.
WPL6 fittings match ASTM A333 Grade 6 low-temperature carbon steel pipe, and are used with A350 LF2 flanges in the same systems.
WPL6 is impact tested at −46 °C for low-temperature service; WPB is not impact tested and is normally limited to about −29 °C.
