What Is Hastelloy C276?

Alloy C276 (UNS N10276) is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy with tungsten, one of the most corrosion-resistant alloys used in process piping. Its very low carbon and silicon let it be welded without losing corrosion resistance at the welds.

  • Outstanding resistance to both oxidising and reducing acids, including mixed and contaminated acids.
  • Resists wet chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide.
  • Practically immune to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.

Hastelloy C276 Flanges: What to Know

Nickel alloy flanges are forged from certified bar or billet and machined; their high cost means flange type and facing should be chosen carefully, and lap joint flanges with Hastelloy C276 stub ends are sometimes used to save material.

  • A premium material, chosen where stainless, duplex and lower nickel alloys fail.
  • For strongly oxidising media, Alloy C22 can perform better.

Applications

  • Chemical plants handling mixed acids and chlorides
  • Flue gas desulphurisation scrubbers
  • Pulp and paper bleach plants
  • Sour gas and pollution-control systems
  • Pharmaceutical and waste treatment

Testing and Documentation

Every heat is PMI-verified and its chemistry and mechanical properties are confirmed against the material specification before the flanges are released. Each piece is marked with grade, size, rating and heat number for traceability to its EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate. EN 10204 3.2 certification and inspection by the buyer's nominated third-party agency are available on request, as are PED 2014/68/EU compliance for European projects and IBR certification for Indian boiler applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hastelloy C276 Flanges — FAQs

Hastelloy is a trademark of Haynes International. Fittings are supplied to the ASTM specifications for UNS N10276, commonly called Alloy C276, which has the same chemistry.

C276 has higher molybdenum and tungsten and is preferred in strongly reducing acids, mixed acids and wet chlorine service; 625 is often chosen for seawater and high-strength applications.

We make Hastelloy C276 Flanges from ½" to 24" to ASME B16.5 and from 26" to 60" to ASME B16.47 Series A and B, in Class 150 to 2500, and to EN 1092-1, DIN, BS and JIS standards in PN ratings.

Every order is supplied with EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates showing heat chemistry and mechanical properties to ASTM B564 UNS N10276. EN 10204 3.2 certification and inspection by your nominated third-party agency are available on request.
