ASTM A182 F304/304L Stainless Steel Flanges

SS 304/304L Flanges Manufacturer & Exporter in India

SS 304/304L flanges are forged to ASTM A182 / ASME SA182 grades F304 and F304L, the 18% chromium, 8% nickel austenitic stainless steel that is the default choice for clean water, food and beverage, pharmaceutical utilities, mild chemicals and general process piping. Grade 304 resists atmospheric corrosion, fresh water and most organic and oxidising media, and stays tough from cryogenic temperatures upwards.

Raaj Fittings forges and machines SS 304 and 304L flanges in-house at our two plants in India, from ½" to 60" and from Class 150 to Class 2500, and supplies them to fabricators, EPC contractors and stockists in the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. Dual-certified F304/F304L material is the standard supply for welded piping.

When 304/304L Is the Right Choice

  • Good for: potable and demineralised water, steam condensate, food, dairy and brewery lines, nitric acid and many organic chemicals, instrument air, and atmospheric service away from the coast.
  • Not for chlorides: 304 has no molybdenum, so seawater, brackish water, de-icing salts and chloride-bearing process streams cause pitting and crevice corrosion. Specify SS 316/316L or duplex flanges there.
  • Welding: standard 304 (0.08% C) can sensitise in the heat-affected zone of a weld; 304L avoids this without post-weld annealing.
  • Temperature: austenitic 304/304L is suitable for cryogenic service. At elevated temperatures, its rating falls with temperature according to the ASME B16.5 tables, where F304 is in Material Group 2.1 and F304L in Group 2.3. For sustained high-temperature service, stabilised 321 or 347, or 304H, is normally preferred.

SS 304/304L Flange Types We Manufacture

Applications

  • Water treatment, potable water and demineralised water systems
  • Food, dairy, beverage and brewery process lines
  • Pharmaceutical utilities and clean steam
  • Nitric acid and fertiliser plants
  • Pulp and paper, textile and general chemical plants
  • Cryogenic and low-temperature gas systems

Testing and Documentation

Every heat is PMI-verified and its chemistry and mechanical properties are confirmed against the material specification before the flanges are released. Each piece is marked with grade, size, rating and heat number for traceability to its EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate. EN 10204 3.2 certification and inspection by the buyer's nominated third-party agency are available on request, as are PED 2014/68/EU compliance for European projects and IBR certification for Indian boiler applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

SS 304 / 304L Flanges — FAQs

F304L limits carbon to 0.030% against 0.08% for F304, which prevents sensitisation and intergranular corrosion after welding. F304 has slightly higher minimum strength. Dual-certified F304/F304L flanges meet both and are the usual supply for welded piping.

No, 304 is not recommended for seawater or other chloride-bearing service because it has no molybdenum and suffers pitting and crevice corrosion. Use 316/316L for mild chloride exposure and duplex 2205 or super duplex 2507 for seawater.

ASTM A182 F304 is in ASME B16.5 Material Group 2.1 and F304L in Group 2.3. The group sets the pressure–temperature rating of the flange in each class.

We make SS 304/304L flanges from ½" to 24" to ASME B16.5 and from 26" to 60" to ASME B16.47 Series A and B, in Class 150 to Class 2500, plus EN 1092-1, DIN, BS, JIS and IS flanges in PN ratings.

Yes. After solution annealing, stainless steel flanges are pickled and passivated to remove scale and restore a clean, corrosion-resistant passive surface.
