MS16142 is a US military standard that defines the dimensions of the boss (port) for straight-thread, gasket-sealed tube fittings: the threaded port in a pump, valve, cylinder or manifold into which a tube fitting is screwed, with an O-ring making the seal. It is found on aerospace, defence ground equipment and older hydraulic systems built to military specifications.
Raaj Fittings supplies tube fittings with port ends made to MS16142 dimensions on request, from our two plants in India, together with our flare fittings and compression fittings.
Unlike a tapered pipe thread, a straight (parallel) thread does not seal by wedging. Instead, an O-ring on the fitting is compressed into a chamfer or counterbore at the mouth of the port when the fitting is tightened. The port dimensions in MS16142 (thread size, counterbore, chamfer and spot face) are what make the seal reliable, so the fitting and the port must match.
Industrial equipment uses closely related straight-thread O-ring boss ports, such as SAE J1926 / ISO 11926. When replacing fittings on military or aerospace equipment, quote MS16142 and the thread size so that the fitting's O-ring groove and thread match the port.
Every MS16142 fitting is made from PMI-verified material, dimensionally inspected against the ordered standard and marked with material, size, rating and heat number. Orders are supplied with EN 10204 3.1 certificates; EN 10204 3.2 certification and inspection by the buyer's nominated third-party agency are available on request.
MS16142 is a US military standard giving the dimensions of straight-thread, gasket (O-ring) sealed bosses or ports for tube fittings.
The seal is made by an O-ring on the fitting compressed into the chamfer at the port mouth, not by the thread itself.
