MSS SP-75 is the Manufacturers Standardization Society standard for high-test, wrought, buttwelding fittings: elbows, tees, reducers and caps for high-pressure oil and gas transmission and distribution pipelines built from high-yield line pipe. It sets dimensions, design proof testing, mechanical requirements, end preparation and marking, and is used together with the material specification ASTM A860 WPHY.
Raaj Fittings manufactures MSS SP-75 fittings in WPHY 42 to WPHY 70 at our two plants in India for pipeline contractors and operators in the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.
| Fitting grade | Min. yield | Typical line pipe |
|---|---|---|
| WPHY 42 | 42 ksi (290 MPa) | API 5L X42 |
| WPHY 52 | 52 ksi (360 MPa) | API 5L X52 |
| WPHY 60 | 60 ksi (415 MPa) | API 5L X60 |
| WPHY 65 | 65 ksi (450 MPa) | API 5L X65 |
| WPHY 70 | 70 ksi (485 MPa) | API 5L X70 |
MSS SP-75 fittings are designed so that they are at least as strong as the matching pipe, and the design is proven by proof testing. Because pipeline walls vary, the fitting wall at the weld end is matched to the pipe, and where the walls differ the bevel is tapered to make a sound transition weld. Ordering information therefore includes the pipe grade, outside diameter and wall thickness, and the design factor or class location of the pipeline where relevant.
High-test fittings are made from normalised or quenched-and-tempered steel with controlled carbon equivalent for field welding, and are impact tested at the temperature the order specifies. Hardness testing and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 compliance are added for sour pipelines.
Barred tees for pigged pipelines are made to order.
Every MSS SP-75 fitting is made from PMI-verified material, dimensionally inspected against the ordered standard and marked with material, size, rating and heat number. Orders are supplied with EN 10204 3.1 certificates; EN 10204 3.2 certification and inspection by the buyer's nominated third-party agency are available on request.
MSS SP-75 covers high-test fittings for high-yield pipelines (ASTM A860 WPHY), with design and testing suited to pipeline use; ASME B16.9 covers general factory-made wrought buttweld fittings.
WPHY 52, with a minimum yield of 52 ksi (360 MPa), matches X52 line pipe.
The fitting wall at the weld end must match the pipe so the weld is sound, and the fitting is designed for the pipeline pressure and pipe grade.
Yes, with hardness limits and testing to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 when it is specified on the order.
