What is Swage Nipple?
The Swage Nipple, often referred to as Reducing Nipple, are essentially forged pipe fittings. They are typically made to the MSS SP-95 standard, which is widely used for alloy, carbon, and stainless steel materials. They are mostly used to connect two pipes of various sizes and to change the diameter of pipes. Swage nipples often come in two varieties, namely:

  • Concentric swage nipple- Used for vertical pipelines
  • Eccentric swage nipple- Used for the horizontal pipelines

Additionally, there are common thread swage nipples with single-headed, double-headed, and flat-headed outside thread.
Either bar material or seamless pipe is used to make the Swage Nipple. They can withstand a working pressure that is appropriate and comparable to that of seamless straight pipes. They come in a variety of material parameters. The Swage Nipple has a variety of connecting ends, including plain both ends, plain small end, and plain large end. They can also be found in thread and bevel forms. The Swage Nipple can be customised with various material finishes to increase their level of defence against the environment. They can be made to any size based on the pipe's measurements.

Why do we use Stainless Steel Swage Nipple?
The stainless steel swage nibble operates similarly to how reducers do. They can join the buttwelded pipes to a threaded pipe or a smaller socket weld. They are essentially a form of fitting that is used with tubing of a specific size to cast additional ones. Concentric and eccentric swage nipples, which are utilised with vertical pipes and horizontal pipes, respectively, are the two types of swage nipples that are often employed.

Carbon Steel Concentric Swage Nipples Vs Alloy Steel Swage Nipple
The Carbon Steel Concentric Swage Nipples are composed primarily of carbon and iron with minor amounts of alloying components. The swage nipples' chemical makeup gives them qualities like firmness. However, it has a low melting point, ductility, and weldability. The characteristics of Carbon Steel Concentric Swage Nipples might change slightly depending on their carbon content. They are utilised to join together vertical pipes.
Iron, carbon, and other alloying elements are present in significant concentrations in the alloy steel swage nipple. As a result of the alloy steel's better qualities due to its chemical makeup, it has increased hardness and durability. Due to the alloy's inclusion of chromium, they may efficiently resist corrosion as well. They support the joining of pipes and welds of various sizes.

Difference between Socket Weld Vs Threaded Swage Nipple?
The Threaded Swage Nipple is screwed to the pipe and does not require any welding, in contrast to the Socket Welded Swage Nipples, which are attached to the piping system using fillet welding. While the Threaded Swage Nipple helps connect pipes that need regular assembly and dismantling, the Socket Weld Swage Nipple is generally utilised for long-lasting and robust connections. Where welding is not an option due to a safety concern or a space constraint, one can obtain threaded fittings.
Even though installing the Socket Weld Swage Nipple takes time, they provide a solid connection. The Threaded Swage Nipples, however, take less time but are less trustworthy.

The size range of the reducer is broad. The present swage nipple specification extends from DN6 to DN300 (from 1/4" to 12"), but the reducer size standard goes from DN15 to DN3400 (from 1/2" to 136"). Steel plates or seamless steel pipes are used to create the reducers, and round bar or billet steel is used to create the swage nipple.
