What is Ring joint flange?
It is possible to define the Ring Type Joint Flange as a machined metallic ring with cuts and grooves on its face. The metallic ring that the grooves essentially sit on is compressed when the connecting nuts on the flanges are tightened. It provides a tight seal and leak-proof piping connections. They come in a variety of material grades and are perfect for high temperature and high pressure applications.
For some situations, the RTJ flange makes an excellent alternative to the raised face flange. They offer good structural integrity, making them the ideal choice for usage in sensitive applications. They provide tight-fitting seals, effectively lowering the possibility of leakage during flange assembly procedures.

When To Use Ring Type Joint Flanges
Most often, severe circumstances, including high temperature and high pressure services, call for the employment of ring type joint flanges. They provide a tight seal and aid in preventing piping system leaks.

Ring Type Joint Flange Design Considerations
Deep cuts and grooves are present on the face of the machined metal ring known as the RTJ flange. The grooves essentially lie on the metal ring, and when the bolts in the flange are tightened, they may be crushed. The RTJ flange has a special design that aids in creating a tight seal, providing a leak-proof connection.

Difference between raised face and ring joint flange
A variety of gaskets can be used with the raised face flanges. They are significantly easier to approach because of their structure, or raised face. The raised face flange's shape allows the hole pressure to be concentrated in that one small gasket area, which improves separation between the two flanges that are being joined.
The stronger metal to metal seal provided by ring type joint flanges allows them to withstand higher temperatures and pressures. They are very useful in locations with limited space. However, they do not support several types of gasket, much like the raised face flange. But once you make the appropriate choice, they will provide a stronger and more dependable connection.

How to do inspection of Rtj Type Flange?
Apart from visual inspections, ultrasonic testing can also be done on the RTJ flanges to understand their conditions.

  • You can use a wider variety of gaskets, ranging from spiral wound to flat ring sheet.

  • Because of this design, more pressure can be concentrated on a smaller gasket area. This, in turn, improves the joint's ability to handle pressure containment.
