The main characteristic that differentiates A350 LF2 Class 1 And Class 2 is their minimum application temperature. For A350 LF2 Class 1, the minimum application temperature is -46 degrees C, whereas it is -18 degrees C for Class 2.

A350 LF3 Flanges Vs SA350 LF2 Flanges
The A350 LF3 and the SA 350 LF2 materials are both used in the manufacturing of forged flanges. They have a slightly different chemical composition and thus, their properties are also quite different from one another.

  • The SA 350 material with grade LF2 can be utilised in applications where the temperature drops to -45.5 degrees C, whereas the equivalent temperature for grade LF3 is -101.1 degrees C.
  • They forge at various temperatures. For the LF2 grade, the A350 material is forged at a temperature of between 1230 and 1260 degrees C; they are not forged below 900 to 925 degrees C. As opposed to the LF3 grade, which is forged at a temperature between 117 and 1205 degrees C but not below 925 degrees C.

Following the welding procedure, continuous heat treatment will be applied to both grades. Additionally, they are machined to the specifications. Determining whether to machine a forged, normalised, or annealed structure would depend on the current situation.

Their forging temperatures differ. For the LF2 grade, the A350 material is forged between 1230 and 1260 degrees Celsius, and they are not forged below 900 to 925 degrees Celsius. The ideal forging temperature for this material is between 900 and 1200 oC. Reduce soak times as much as possible to prevent excessive scaling, but leave enough time for the centre to achieve furnace temperature. After forging, pieces should be given time to cool in steady air.

Depending on the condition, ASTM A350 LF2 offers good to very good machinability. Operations like sawing, turning, broaching, milling, and other similar operations can be successfully done using standard machine tool manufacturer recommended speeds and feeds..
