Chemical, engineering, metallurgy, oil and gas, shipping, food, and many more industries use the ASTM A182 F92 flanges for a variety of purposes. Because each type of flange has a particular structural design, they can be used for a variety of purposes. Both flanges have very distinct welding forms. While it is possible to radiograph the weld neck flange, it is not possible to do so with the slip on flange. While a slip-on flange requires a fillet weld, a weld neck flange requires a circular weld. The flanges are made of very different materials as well.
